Black Nymph

Hook: Hanak Nymph Hook

Body: Mohair yarn

Tail: Partridge

Simple fly tying at its best: Tie in the partridge tail, afterwards the mohair yarn. Wind the yarn around the shank and tie off, that's it. If you need to fill your fly box with nymphs (who don't?), this is a pattern which makes this job a bit easier and faster.

Since I tie these in sizes around 16 and with no hotspot or reflecting materials, you can't expect the fish to move far to the fly. Presentation is key here, which get's easier, if you can see the fish. Keep the leader long and try to let the nymph fall on the nose of the fish. If you manage to do that, you won't see a big movement to the side. What you can see, though, is kind of a shaking movement of the fish. Hard to describe, but once you have seen it yourself, you know when to strike.
