The fly on the photo is a modern variant of the age old Red Tag theme. I used a 3.5 mm tungsten bead on a size 12 long nymph hook hook. The tag is CDC. The body consist of three peacock herls, which I twisted to a rope with the thread. In this way you don't need a ripping wire. The hackle is CDC, which I just wound 1.5 times around the shank. In order to cover the thread wraps necessary to secure the hackle I used a tiny bit of synthetic dubbing. This is a really quick tie. I am slow and can still tie this in under 3 min. Nymphs like these fish best, when the speed of the current is not very high. So as soon as you move outside the high alpine mountain areas leave your Perdigons nymphs in the box and fish something with more movement. And of course not only grayling take this fly, also brown trout love it.
